The controlled media manufacturing process allows Donaldson
Endurance™ oil filters to deliver both higher dirt holding capacity at
the same pressure
differential and higher efficiency compared to
conventional cellulose filters. The synthetic media also has better
durability with usage.
Throughout the service life of a cellulose filter, hot oil
will degrade the resins that bind the media. The synthetic media
technology uses a wire screen
backing pleated with the media, resulting
in superior strength.
Donaldson Endurance™ oil filters offer extended service
intervals, greater engine protection to prolong engine and equipment
life, improved lubricant flow,
improved cold start performance and
lower operating costs.

The AMSOIL Super Duty Oil Filter
(SDF) is designed to provide maximum filtration while meeting the high
flow demands of modern automobiles.
The AMSOIL SDF contains a special
cellulose, synthetic and glass blend media that offers the best
possible balance of long life, high capacity and overall
efficiency.
The AMSOIL SDF has a lofted fiber
depth-type media that traps dirt throughout its entire thickness for
exceptional filtering efficiency. It keeps oil clean and
free of
wear-causing contaminants. The AMSOIL SDF Oil Filter provides up to 100
percent more capacity and up to 20 percent greater efficiency than
other filters provide. It is ideal for use with extended oil drain
intervals.
The AMSOIL SDF has a heavy-duty case
of drawn steel. The case is double-crimped at the base with
rolled-under seaming to withstand extreme
pressure surges and road
shocks.
On most filters a relief valve is provided to assure ample oil flow. It prevents oil starvation in the engine in the event the media becomes saturated.
On filter installations where the
mounting is sideways or upright, dirty oil could drain out of the
filter when the engine is shut off. The AMSOIL SDF
has an
anti-drainback valve that keeps trapped contaminants in the filter when
the engine is not running.
AMSOIL INC. recommends changing the AMSOIL SDF according to the following guidelines.
In gasoline-fueled engines using any
AMSOIL motor oil except AMSOIL XL-7500 Synthetic Motor Oil, change the
filter at 12,500-mile or six-month
intervals. In gasoline-fueled
engines using AMSOIL XL-7500 Synthetic Motor Oil, change the filter at
7,500-mile or six-month intervals. If a Hastings
or other filter is
used, filter should be changed at manufacturer recommendations.
In diesel-fueled large truck engines,
change the filter(s) at the engine manufacturer's recommended oil
change interval. In diesel-fueled light trucks,
including pickups and
vans, change the filter at 7,000-mile or six-month intervals.
When using an AMSOIL Oil Filter with conventional motor oils, refer to the owner's manual for the recommended oil filter change interval.

The nanofiber technology causes submicron contaminants to be held on the surface layer of smaller fibers. This filtration characteristic is only possible with this new type of air filtration technology. In on-highway applications, where the contaminant is primarily submicron in size, Donaldson Endurance filters cause less restriction than conventional filters with cellulose media. The smaller interfiber spaces of nanofiber technology have a higher efficiency and capture more contaminant.
These air filters also are reusable. When the restriction gauge indicates replacement, the filter can be removed from the air box and cleaned with shop air up to five times.
Donaldson Endurance™ air filters are guaranteed to deliver twice the miles between change intervals over cellulose air filters for on-highway applications or customers receive a new filter at no charge.

Nanofibers have
submicron diameters and small interfiber spaces, which result in more
contaminant being captured on the surface of the media and lower
restriction.

Cellulose fibers are
larger than nanofibers, and have larger spaces between the fibers,
causing contaminant to be held in the depth of the media and plug the
airflow path; resulting in higher restriction and less capacity.

Two-Stage Air Filters Oil-wetted foam improves performance and fuel
efficiency by trapping more dirt and allowing better air flow. Product Code: TS
|
AMSOIL oil-wetted foam air filters
keep oils and engines cleaner for longer periods with the most
effective air filtration available today. AMSOIL air filters provide
superior performance in all three critical areas of filtration:
efficiency (dirt-stopping), capacity (dirt-holding) and resistance (air
flow). AMSOIL air filters are uniquely
designed to hold wear-causing
dirt while allowing only clean air into the engine for better
performance, better fuel economy, lower exhaust emissions and longer
engine life. Also, AMSOIL air filters are washable and reusable for
thousands of miles of trouble-free service. Tests prove AMSOIL air
filters have up to 350 percent greater life expectancy than competitive
air filters.
The AMSOIL TS Air Filter, for
passenger vehicles, features two layers of oil-wetted polyurethane
foam, which provides a network of interlocking cells that trap
particles yet allow a constant flow of clean intake air for outstanding
engine protection and performance.
The AMSOIL POD Air Filter, for small
engines, features an oil-wetted foam filter element and an inner spring
that shakes dirt off the filter and harmlessly away
from the engine.
AMSOIL TS and POD Air Filters are
"full-depth" filters that trap and hold much more dirt than do
conventional "surface-type" filters. The polyurethane foam
used in
AMSOIL Air Filters is much thicker than the thin layer of paper used in
conventional filters. The foam’s thickness allows for more filtering
area and more
capacity to trap dirt over a longer period of time.
AMSOIL air filters allow more air
into the engine than conventional air filters do and better maintain
their air flow over the life of the filter. The intake surface of
conventional paper filters quickly becomes obstructed with dirt, which
impedes air flow. AMSOIL air filters distribute dirt throughout the
foam depth, allowing
unobstructed air intake to the engine.
The flexible polyurethane foam of
AMSOIL air filters provides a consistent, tight seal between filter and
housing. Unlike conventional filters, which often fail to
seal properly
due to their hard rubber seal, the foam of AMSOIL air filters conforms
to irregularities on the bottom and top of the housing, forming a tight
seal
when the housing is secured. Intake air must go through the filter
before reaching the carburetor.
AMSOIL air filters are available for
most car and small engine applications. The AMSOIL "Oil and Air Filters
Application Guide" (G-194) is a comprehensive
reference guide covering
most makes and models of automobiles and light trucks. There is also an
Online Filter Lookup Guide. If you cannot find an
AMSOIL
air filter to fit your application, please call the AMSOIL Technical
Services Department at (715) 392-7101 for availability and price quotes
on
filters to fit your application.
The AMSOIL POD Air Filter is suited
for applications such as motorcycles, rototillers, small garden
tractors, lawn mowers or farm implement equipment.
The AMSOIL POD Air
Filter is adjustable to fit carburetor throats ranging from 1 to 1-7/8
inches. It also has a special adapter for Briggs & Stratton
carburetors.
Other throat sizes are available.
The service life of AMSOIL air
filters can be extended indefinitely when the following procedures are

Because they are designed with superior performance
qualities,
AMSOIL synthetic lubricants are able to withstand the
demanding driving
conditions of American roadways for greater
intervals than their petroleum-based counterparts. By utilizing
the latest in synthetic lubrication technology, AMSOIL has
developed lubricants that can be used much longer than conventional
petroleum products. And because AMSOIL synthetics reduce
friction so effectively, fuel can be diverted from the task of
overcoming friction to reaching the drive train, which will decrease
overall fuel consumption.
Conventional lubricants also are
very susceptible to volatility. When their lighter molecules "boil
off,' during hot operating conditions, the
oil becomes thick and more
difficult to pump, consuming more energy and reducing fuel economy.
Because AMSOIL synthetic lubricants contain uniformly sized molecules,
they lose very little to volatility
and keep fuel economy high.
AMSOIL synthetic motor oils, gear lubes and drive-train fluids
consistently yield increases in fuel economy. Industry tests
demonstrate
that an average passenger car can conservatively decrease
its fuel consumption 2 percent to 5 percent by switching to synthetic
lubricants, while independent testing shows that trucks can decrease
fuel consumption by 8.2 percent. Many AMSOIL customers report even
larger
gains in fuel economy.
Based on 1998 Domestic Fuel Consumption data, American cars consume 72
billion gallons of gasoline per year. If all of these vehicles
switched
to using AMSOIL synthetic lubricants and gained a 5 percent increase in
fuel economy, America would save a staggering
3.66 billion gallons of
fuel. That would be enough to drive to the moon and back more than
163,000 times, or enough to drive to the
sun and back 420 times.
By taking advantage of the extended drain intervals of AMSOIL synthetic
lubricants, oil usage is also significantly reduced. People can
reduce
the amount of oil they use by as much as 80 percent, by switching to
AMSOIL.

Advanced
Technology In 20 years, engine speeds have increased 50 percent. Modern engines are smaller, leaner-burning, leaner-running, have higher compressions and use smaller radiators and oil sumps. Many use turbochargers and multivalve heads, which boost rpms and temperatures even higher. Over the same period, oil drain intervals have increased as much as 300 percent. Modern engines produce more power with better fuel economy and fewer emissions than ever before, and the oil protecting them is working harder than ever too. The smaller the weight loss due to
high-temperature
evaporation, the better the oil retains its ability to
FACT: Unlike conventional motor oils that contain nonessential molecules that do virtually nothing to protect the engine - and contain elements that can actually harm it -AMSOIL synthetic motor oils are pure and molecularly uniform. Every single molecule in AMSOIL synthetic motor oils is dedicated to engine lubrication and protection. FACT: AMSOIL synthetic motor oils reduce friction more effectively than conventional petroleum motor oils do. Less friction means less engine wear, better fuel economy and improved power and performance. FACT: AMSOIL synthetic motor oils inhibit the formation of sludge, varnish, acids and other harmful deposits. Engines stay cleaner, perform better and last longer. FACT: AMSOIL synthetic motor oils do not "burn off,' like conventional petroleum motor oils do. AMSOIL synthetic motor oils retain their viscosity, providing reduced oil consumption, improved fuel economy and better wear protection. FACT: AMSOIL synthetic motor oils remain fluid in cold temperatures. Conventional petroleum oils contain paraffins or waxes that cause the oil to thicken in cold temperatures. AMSOIL synthetic motor oils are formulated without paraffins. With AMSOIL synthetic motor oils, engines start easier and are assured immediate start-up protection. Engines, transmissions and other mechanical systems contain hundreds of moving parts. Though the metal surfaces of these parts look smooth, they are actually full of microscopic peaks and valleys. When the peak of one surface touches its mating surface, it causes damage. Damage may lead to component wear or even eventual failure. Failure prevention and wear reduction are the primary functions of lubrication. |
Conventional oils - the oils that most people are familiar with - are refined from crude oil. Refining is a process of physically separating light oil components from heavy ones.
Crude oil contains millions of different kinds of
molecules.
Many
are similar in weight but not in structure. The refining process cannot
distinguish
such molecules, so a wide assortment of molecules is present in the
finished
lubricant made from crude oil stocks.
Some crude oil molecules are not beneficial to the
lubrication
process.
For example, paraffin causes refined lubricants to thicken and flow
poorly
in cold temperatures. Molecules containing sulfur, nitrogen and other
elements invite the formation of sludge and other products of lubricant
breakdown, especially in high-temperature applications. Sludge and
breakdown products significantly increase wear rates.
The assorted molecules of refined lubricants also have
different
shapes, which make lubricant surfaces irregular at the molecular level.
As
lubricant layers flow across one another during the lubrication
process, these
irregularities create friction, which consumes power, reduces
efficiency and
increases heat and wear.
Synthetic lubricants are chemically engineered from pure
chemicals
rather than refined from crude oil. That gives them significant
advantages
over refined oils.
Pure - The feedstocks from which synthetic lubricants
are made
do
not contain sulfur, nitrogen or other elements that invite the
formation of
sludge and other products of lubricant breakdown. Synthetic lubricants
can
be used in higher temperatures than refined lubricants
without breaking
down.
Their resistance to breakdown also allows them to be used longer than
refined
lubricants can be used. Lubricated
systems stay cleaner and last longer
with
synthetic lubricants.
Uniform - The feedstocks from which synthetic lubricants
are
made
feature uniform and smooth molecular structures, which ensure low
friction
as lubricant layers slide across one another. Reduced friction
increases energy
throughput for greater fuel efficiency and power
and reduces heat and
wear
for longer equipment life.
Molecular uniformity also helps synthetics resist
thinning in
heat
and thickening in cold, which helps them protect better than refined
oils
over a system's operating temperature range and helps to ensure secure
sealing.
Designable - Many different kinds of feedstocks may be
used to
create
synthetic lubricants, allowing a synthetic to be designed for
virtually
any
application. Some feedstocks are ideal for use in extremely cold
environments.
Others are perfect for use in extreme heat.
Some are extremely safe in
applications in which refined lubricants pose a fire or explosion
hazard. Refined oils simply do not offer
the design flexibility
synthetics offer.
The design flexibility of synthetics also allows them to
be
tailored
very specifically to the needs of everyday applications such as
automotive
engines, commercial equipment or more industrial machinery. That
specificity
helps to ensure long life and peak power,
performance and fuel economy
from
the lubricated system and long lubricant life.
